I haven’t visited the warrior forum in a very long time, but today I am so glad I did… because there is a fantastic post about the ‘profit funnel’ and using OTO’s the right way. One comment was… “Say No to OTO Manipulation!” Classic…

Check it out at.

  1. Paul,
I’m a bit late getting to this one … haven’t check my feeds for a day or three.
The thread was interesting and entertaining.
However, one point not brought out, to my mind, was the impression on the customer of the upsells/downsells.
To me - and about one third of all customers (see the 30% bit on my blog) - those 2nd & 3rd & 4th sales attempts accomplish only one thing: they make me feel that the seller is desperate.
I don’t mind money-grubbing, per se - snake-oil salesmen abound in _any_ field - but desperation gives me concern about support for the product.
The ‘Thank You’ page approach seems much more appropriate. It doesn’t introduce any uncertainties about the marketer’s stability and longevity. It also _rewards_ *me* as well as the seller. Without time pressure, I can assess the true worth (to me!) and value (to me!) and cost (to me!) of the offered product, rather than be threatened by a [usually artificial] deadline.
