One of the biggest problems that most people face when starting an online business is they can’t get enough traffic to their website. But there really is a simple way of getting more traffic just by giving away free information.

Everybody loves free information, in fact the whole internet is built around free information. If I am looking for something, then I type in Google and I try and find the best free information I can find about that topic. But most people when they are looking for more information are looking for more than just a quick article they are looking for an indepth report about a specific topic.

So what do you do? You give it to them but you don’t just give it to them… you let other people share that report around and even profit from giving away that report and you will soon start a flurry of traffic that you won’t be able to stop.

Here are 3 reasons why viral reports are so effective.

1. You are giving first.

Most people when they come to a new website, the last thing they want to be sold to. When you give first… people are much more receptive and when give the more people will be interested in your other material or products. Plus when you have just given somebody a fantastic 20 page report they will want to give back to you, it’s called the law of recopricity.

2. You are leaveraging the contacts of others.

How would you like to have 100 people to do your work for you. I know I would.

Well it works the same way with viral reports. When other people have the ability to sell your viral report or give it away with no restrictions, then you will reach a much larger crowd of people because you will be leaveraging their friends, family and associates.

3. You are incentivising the give away process.

This is really powerful. If people can actually make money by giving away your free report that is a huge incentive to give away your report to more people.

The easiest way to do this is to allow people to ‘brand’ your viral report with their affiliate links. They give away the report and when the reader buys your product through one of their links, it makes them money. It’s win win all the way.

This month I have been focusing a lot on how to get more traffic to your web site and if you read the last article you will see that there are some that I prefer more than others.

One of my top ways to increase my web site traffic is to use viral reports and I just wanted to share with you 3 reasons why I love to use them.

1.  You are giving first.

It is my strong belief that the following verse from the Bible is true… “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

I try to apply this to my personal life but I also definitely try to apply this to my business as well… because it WORKS. When you give… people like it. I like getting information I can apply to my business and I know that there are so many other people who are the same. So you start building rapport with people but not only that if you give away your best information you will become an authority source… a go to guy for all the good information. This doesn’t just apply to free reports… if you sell your viral report with Master Resell Rights then when people buy this top quality information that they got for a song… when you make a recommendation in that report… they will listen and trust you first.

Going to create a viral report? Give first.

2.  You can’t switch it off once it starts.

The second reason I love viral reports… is because they are viral (obviously) and viral means that once you start them you can’t switch them off because when you release a report with MRR you instantly lose control. If one person buys it… and then instantly sells it to 100 people and then those 100 people start selling it… it has taken a life of it’s own and there is nothing you can do to stop it. And if you have links within your report you are guaranteed to get traffic.

3.  You can make money by with them.

I’m in business to make money… I like money it keeps my wife happy and allows her to buy nice stuff ;-). So there is nothing better then killing two birds with one stone. You want traffic right? So you create a viral report with links to a site you want to promote…either your own or an affiliate program. So you get traffic and you make sales… but how would you like to get paid before you even create the report… how? Simple, advertise for advertisers and get them to pay you for an opportunity to put an ad in your viral report. That’s powerful.

They are not affiliates so please don’t treat them as such. They are people/partners of a closer and ‘higher’ status that you have created a relationship with and that you have worked out a special deal especially for them.

It’s not really hard to find JV partners but it does take time to research that person, build a relationship and create a special deal just for that person. But I can honestly say that the efforts are worth it, in EVERY niche.

2. Forum Marketing - This is a form of traffic ‘gettage’ that is very often overlooked but this type of marketing can be quicker and more targeted then Google Adwords and it’s 100% free.

All you have to do is find a busy forum, which is specifically related to your niche and then be actively involved in that forum. When you build a relationship with the members, and build up an ‘expert status’ then whatever you have in your signature link will attract attention and traffic.

3. Blogs - This is quite a big and complicated subject… but let me just say that BLOGS WORK. I started my first blog over two years ago and whenever I check my web stats one of the biggest attracters of search engines is my blog. I have always used ‘WordPress’ because it is free and you can empower your blog with plugins and modifications that can take your website to the next level.

Let me break down each essential as quickly as possible.

1. Not All Traffic Is Created Equal. All traffic is different and it in quality, quantity, price, time and labour. And that is just the start. Just because you are paying for traffic doesn’t mean it’s quality is better than free and just because you are getting traffic free doesn’t mean that you aren’t losing money by getting it.

2. Acquire From All Available Sources. I see this a lot, a marketer totally reliant on lets say Google Adwords for driving traffic to their site. What happens IF it shut down? So would your entire business. Get as much traffic as you can from as many different sources but keep in mind…

3. Focus On The Best Sources Of Traffic For Your Niche First. All niches are different some niches are actively searching for your product. Others will only ever find your product if somebody recommends it or they stumble upon it. But once you believe that you have found the best source of traffic for that niche…. focus upon it and build it up until you are getting a solid amount of traffic from that source AND THEN move onto another source of traffic.

4. Traffic Should Be Scalable, Viral and Virtually Hands Free. One of the biggest problems with free traffic is that it normally costs you time and labour (time that you could have been spending on something more profitable). Your traffic should be growing without YOU as much as possible.

5. All Traffic Should Be Used Effectively. If you are just sending traffic directly to a sales page then you are not really using that traffic effectively. The most effective use of traffic is to build that relationship first… by the use of a ’shy yes’.

6. All Traffic Should Be Tracked Diligently. If you aren’t tracking where your traffic is coming from and what are the conversion rates then you are not ‘keeping score’ and if you are not keeping score then how will you know whether you win or not? Always keep score.

7. All Traffic Should Be Regularly Reviewed And Improved On. When you are keeping score you can find out who your traffic winners are and then improve on them to make them even better.

Obviously this article wasn’t supposed to teach you everything about traffic… but I do hope that at least one of the above points has given you an ‘AHA’ moment. I hope that it has given you a missing piece of the puzzle to help you understand why you may not be winning the war against increasing your web site traffic.
