Defeating Distractionosaur - Failures Monster…
By Paul Kleinmeulman

It’s 8:30 at night and you have a couple of precious hours before you have to go to bed. You want to grow your online business because you are sick of having to go to work in the morning. Day in day out.

But before you get started you decide to check your email. You start reading a few, one recommends this amazing ‘new’ way to make money online. You spend 30 minutes reading the sales page and decide to buy it. You get to the download page, download the PDF, and start reading a few chapters. As you are reading, you see that this amazing new way to make money online will definitely work BUT it looks like a lot of work.

Before you know it it’s midnight, you haven’t gotten any work done, and you have just blown another $50 bucks because this direction is entirely different from the one you are currently heading in.

Failure’s monster, Distractionosaur strikes again. Tearing you up and spitting you out.

Has that happened to you? It used to happen to me all the time.

So how do you beat this extremely powerful monster? How do you put him in his place and FOCUS on doing the things you need to do to grow your own online business.

Well, let me share with you 4 things, to help you defeat Distractionosaur.

1)  Write A List & Prioritize…

One of the best things that I have done, to beat Distractionosaur, is to take 5 minutes before I switch on the computer and write a list of what I want to achieve, today, this week, this month and then prioritize that list.

Once I have identified what is the most important things that need to be done, I do them first… and then reward myself, with email or a few videos on YouTube.

2)  Eat That Frog First!

Brian Tracy, has written an excellent book, called ‘Eat That Frog’ (or something like that) and the basic principle is that if you eat a big ol’ dirty bullfrog before you do anything else, everything else you do that day will be a breeze.

So on your list, you have frog, something that you are not looking forward to. Perhaps it is writing a set of autoresponder messages, or reviewing a product and writing a compelling review about it. Whatever is… don’t put it off. Do it first and everything else will be easy, and enjoyable in comparison.

This works amazingly well.

3)  Unsubscribe From All But The Best Lists

As an internet marketer, no doubt you are on a lot of lists and no doubt you get a lot of email. Email takes time to read, to delete, and it is a huge distractor. The less email you get the better.

So unsubscribe from every list, that doesn’t provide quality information or recommendations.

I have done that over 2 years ago now, and I have never regretted. I only really read two marketers. They always provide quality emails and recommendations and I respect that about them. Find the marketers that work for you.

4)  Only Buy When You Need It.

If you need a product to grow your business or to do something specific, then by all means buy it. But most people don’t do that. They buy, when they don’t really need it, and never even look at the product. $10 is $10… don’t waste it.

Focus on growing business first and foremost. You won’t regret it.

Well that was 4 simple ways to ensure that you don’t get eaten by Distractionosaur.

Focus is key, you can do it.

All the best for your online success.

"CaseStudy - StumbleUpon Traffic Sucks…"

On the subject of Increase Web Site Traffic, Internet Marketing Business, Social Marketing, What I have Learnt, affiliate marketing, marketing tips

I was going to call this new post "Just Because You Build It Doesn’t Mean They Will Come" but I went with "StumbleUpon Traffic Sucks" instead because that was exactly what I said when I launched my new site http://www.SleepWinks.com just over a week ago.

I did a pretty quiet launch… Did a couple of blog posts (one here and one at My Mind Shift Blog ) and then posted it at a few social bookmarking sites.

No emails, no affiliates.

And the results were disappointing to say the least.

Approximately 30 sign ups and no viralness (will update you on this one in the next week or so).

Did I get traffic? Yes I did… I got some. I got over 150 hits from StumbleUpon… Guess how many signed up? Maybe 2 maximum… could be less.

That was when I said… "StumbleUpon Traffic Sucks"

I know what you are thinking… "Your squeeze page just isn’t converting, Paul"

And you are absolutely right. For non-targeted, ’self improvement’ stumbleuponers my site does not convert at all, maybe 1% if I was lucky.

But this is where I get excited.

I went away for the weekend and enjoyed a nice camping trip… The End ;).

Kidding… Well actually I did go, and had a fantastic long weekend, perfect weather, cold enough for a fire, but warm enough to swim. Friend brought his speed boat as well… yeah it was great, thanks for asking ;).

Anyway this week when I got home, actually just 2 days ago now… I sent out an email to my MyMindShift affiliates saying I had a new affiliate program. A few of them signed up.

When I woke up the next morning (3am… yep I’m still doing it)… I discovered that my email exploded with notifications from Aweber saying people had signed up to my list.

Within 42 minutes of one affiliate signing up to my affiliate page (http://www.sleepwinks.com/affiliates ), I had the first subscriber sign up to the optin via his affiliate link (I can tell because his Id is automatically embedded for lifetime commissions) and when I woke up 4 hours later he had already sent over 140 subscribers and they are still coming in every few minutes 2 days later. I loved watching it.

So far he has sent over 370 subscribers with a conversion rate of over 68.5% (didn’t you just say this page didn’t convert… WRONG! ;) ).

Moral of the story…

P. S. Challenge repeat. Give me a list of how many viral/traffic multiplying methods am I using at http://www.SleepWinks.com Hint it is more than 3.

"Just Give Them What They Want…"

On the subject of Increase Web Site Traffic, Search Engine Optimization, What I have Learnt, marketing tips

Internet marketing is so easy. Especially niche marketing. It is so much easier to market in a less competitive niche then the internet marketing niche.

Here is an example.  BTW did I mention previously that I know very little about SEO? Well I know a lot more than I did 3 weeks ago ;).

For my new website http://www.MyMindShift.com I have been spending quite a bit of time to get more traffic. Affiliate marketing, SEO, Social Marketing and the like and I have been rewarded by my efforts with multiple sales just about every day. Over 170+ sales in 3 weeks.

I have been doing a bit of keyword research and I noticed quit a few searches for ‘free binaural beats’ and the like… So I got my sound engineer to create for me 2 audios that I could give away free. And I created a specific blog post with an optin form which you can see at… http://mymindshift.com/blog/free-binaural-beats-mp3-download/3/

That post ranks on page 2 of Google for most free + binaural beats keywords and to date I have 59 optins, which constantly grows everyday (got 16 today).

So even on page 2 I am still getting traffic and it’s just giving them what they want.

And this is a great way to get free traffic that you wouldn’t pay for… for example I have -free in all my Adwords ads.

And you can do it for everything… free articles, free plr etc.

It’s simply finding out what they market wants and giving it to them.

All the best,

Sincerely,

"Social Marketing Vs Affiliate Marketing <- Results"

On the subject of Internet Marketing Business, Social Marketing, What I have Learnt, affiliate marketing

Now I’m the first to admit that I am definitely not a social marketer. I have very little experience and basically I am just using the shotgun method and hoping something sticks.

In my previous post I tried a little experiment asking for volunteers to digg and stumble my site.

I got 19 diggs all up (from 250+ people who read the post… OUCH!) and basically it was nowhere near the momentum I needed to reach a page one ranking (you need at least 150 in a few hours to get that). Side Note - today I dugg another post at my new blog and it got 4 diggs in less than an hour (I don’t know where these people come from, but I didn’t ask).

Ok let me share with you the traffic that I got from these social marketing sites.

Results for Social Marketing

Stumbleupon = 8 (main page) + 57 (blog)
Digg = 3 (main page) + 16 (blog)
Total Fark = 3 (main page) + 14 (blog) <- I’m really annoyed by this one… I can’t even read the comments they are making because you have to pay for a subscription (And I’m too cheap ;) ).

Results are hard to track but there is 1 sale without affiliate and there maybe a couple of sales via my affiliate link so I can’t be 100% sure.

Results For Affiliate Marketing

Compare that to a 5 minute email I sent to somebody I found via Google promoting a competitors product. She immediately said yes and sent a message to her contacts.

63 hits & 10+ confirmed sales = 15.8% conversion rate.

And another affiliate, I don’t know where this one came from 92 hits and 5 sales = 5.4% conversion rate.

That is 15 confirmed sales from just 2 affiliates. That’s money in my pocket for just send one email (and a few back and forths)

PLUS there are 53 affiliates who brought 1 hit or more resulting in 3 confirmed sales .

And that was before I sent it to my list of 2576 affiliates.

So at the moment I am going to continue to dabble in social marketing but really there is no way to beat good old affiliate marketing.

It brings in the bacon.

Sincerely,

Paul Kleinmeulman

P.S Who says you can’t get traffic via Google in just a couple of days. Google Organic = 29 (mainpage) + 7 (blog)
